Are there too many bars in Kenilworth?

Abbey End could end up having 'more bars than Alcatraz', according to Kenilworth councillors. They were commenting on a decision to grant developers permission to encourage another bar into Abbey End. Councillors want to see more shops in the town rather than bars. What do you think? Comments welcome.

Didn't know there was such a thing as "Too many bars".

Too many charity shops - yes.
Too many opticians - yes.
Too many hairdressers - yes.
Too many Big Issue sellers - yes.

But too many bars? I don't think so!

SO Kenilworth has a new strap line More bars than Alcatraz. Is this a sales pitch or a voice of doom?
Obviously the Kenilworth Society believe it to be a travesty, although given the apparent demographic this is hardly suprising. These people have had it easy for far too long and now that change is needed, panic has set in.
Good riddance to Woolworths and Argos, long live The Almanac and Zizis. Kenilworth is beginning to become exciting and a pleasure to be a part of. Please Kenilworth Society keep up the good work with our great heritage but leave our promising future alone.

At last Kenilworth starts to get a life, and young people (those below 60) want to move here. The more bars = the more footfall = the more trade = more popular Kenilworth becomes =Result - A better place to Shop - Eat Drink and Live.

Dear Anonymous,

You mean a better class of Riff Raff?

No, seriously, I agree with what you say. And by the way, I am over 60.

As I said above, charity shops etc we can do without.

Let's have some classy drinking holes and classy shops.

I'd rather have more bars than empty shops that are under threat of being demolished!

The restaurants and bars are so busy at weekends there definitely seems to be a market for them and it must be bringing people into the town from surrounding areas.

We need to move with the times and cater for a younger audience - they are, after all, the future of the town.

More bars will hopefully give the run-down 'Lion' and 'Bear & Ragged' a kick up the behind. Also the pretentious 'The Kenilworth' could use some competetion. The almanac is the best thing in Kenilworth for ages.

Leave a couple of charity shops and opticians for the blue-rinse brigade and upgrade the rest into modern shops/bars. No more restaurants though please, 20+ is enough I think!
