Sorry I haven't been online for a few weeks, it's been a busy one lately!

Core Strategy

The core strategy meeting was good last night - did any of you go?
There are lots of residents fired up about this issue - particularly the patch of land between Kenilworth and Coventry that might face development.
Ken safer neighbourhood meeting next, Monday 7 at Kenilworth School.

Skateboarding ban

Skateboarders and rollerbladers are to be encouraged off the streets under a new ban for safety reasons.
They could face fines as well as getting their equipment confiscated if they break the new ban.
Is this fair?
Shoud they be forced to use a skate park that they deem is 'hazardous'?

Web charges at Kenilworth library

To use the computers at the library from now on you'll be paying £4 an hour! - the first 30 minutes is free if you're a member, but after that the hefty charge is added.
Concessionary rates are being offered, but not for older people - this affects in particular a group called the Silver Surfers.

The beautiful garden was opened earlier this year and it's reported that footfall in town has increased massively as a result.

Is the new greenway a mess?

Critics say the new Connect 2 greenway in Kenilworth is a 'total mess'. Some councillors say the route is being ruined and will only be suitable for cyclists, not walkers. The route runs from Kenilworth to Berkswell and will eventually link with Warwick University. Your views are welcome.

The horse fair returns on July 26, tell us your views

The horse fair is on its way back to Kenilworth on July 26.
This time the organisers must apply for planning permission for the event to help it run more smoothly.
These include providing proper toilet blocks and issuing strict parking guidelines - do you think this will make a difference?

The Queen is unable to come to Kenilworth to open the new Elizabethan garden at the castle. She will not be following in the footsteps of her illustrious predecessor, Elizabeth I.

Concerns continue to be expressed about the project to make a greenway from Kenilworth to Berkswell. Last week, the KWN reported complaints from residents unhappy with the number of trees being cut down and claiming there had not been enough consultation. This week, horse riders complained they were being left out of the plans - and off signs marking the route. What do you think about this project? Is it good for Kenilworth or do you have concerns?

Will Kenilworth get a new railway station soon?

Kenilworth could have its own railway station by 2012, the Weekly News reports this week. Interest from train company Arriva Transport Wales has prompted renewed interest in the project which has been discussed for many years. The link would run from Aberystwyth to Shrewbury, Birmingham and on to London Marylebone, but could stop at Kenilworth. Do you think this would ever happen? Your comments are welcome.

This week, the Weekly News carries a piece by Michael Synnott of the Kenilworth Society. He talks about the frustrating delays in the redevelopment of Talisman Square. He is unhappy that shops remain vacant, and suggests letting new start-up businesses use them in the short-term for low rents.

Where is a good place to eat out in Kenilworth?

Where would you recommend for a good meal? The Weekly News received this letter from Andrew Davies of Kenilworth (yes the famous Andrew Davies, the screenwriter and author).

I HAVE just been lunching at La Cucina restaurant in Warwick Road, Kenilworth - delicious, as always. They make the best Melanzane alla Parmigiana I've ever tasted, here, in London, or in Italy, and their pizzas are highly rated by my grandchildren. I frequently bring colleagues from the BBC when they are up from London, and they all love the food and service too. With all the new places opening up - and good luck to them too - your readers might be overlooking this excellent and inexpensive local place with its authentic Italian cuisine. It's very unpretentious, but believe me, it's the real thing.
